I have an old version of IZArc that I have been using for years, and haven't updated it. Older and Commercial versions ought to be safer though. For example, IZArc and WinACE now come with adware addons which are optional installs. Archivers especially tend to become more difficult to sustain in the market due to the plethora of competition. NOTE: Always check the latest online reviews before installing any new software. This is still a good archiver, with one major caveat - see below. The tool itself is a very polished one that supports many file formats, but it isn't as fast as 7-zip or IZArc to launch.
Its makers also claim ACE to be best compression format, but I found it be less supported by other archivers. And it has all the bells and whistles that the OP may want as a "modern interface". It's not free, but it isn't too expensive. WinACE: Talking of fancy, there's nothing fancier than WinACE. Best recommendation for senior citizens who don't want anything fancy or confusing.Ĥ. Windows 10 built-in archiver (ZIP & CAB) plugin: usually this is the easiest trick for zipping and unzipping files & folders, and works out of the box. It does not have a fancy interface, but it is clean & functional, and supports the Windows file/folder context-menu integration and drag-n-drops. IZArc can also do conversion between various file formats and also create self-extracting archives. But I love IZArc's support for tons of file formats, and it has a nifty feature wherein we can MOUNT a CD/DVD compressed file (e.g., ISO, NRG, BIN) as a virtual drive! Very useful when working with recovery media, and music & app DVDs.
IZArc : not a popular archiver, I don't know why. This is my primary archiver, set as default for zip and 7z file formats.Ģ. For working with zip files, this is great (though Winzip and others have better drag-drop support etc.), and for strong compression 7z file format is the option to go for, as it has widespread support.
